Bloc Party

As of April 2011, band members Matt Tong and Russell Lissack have separately confirmed that Bloc Party are working on new material. With Lissack mentioning that he had ‘already written “maybe seven or eight songs” for the next Bloc Party LP.’ The reunion is expected to happen towards the end of 2011, with no confirmed release for a new LP or touring dates.

Recording Drums:
We have been working on the new album for a couple days and here is our set up with drums. Jordan’s 3 piece set is using 18 mics!
Our producer Harry has used 3 extra bass drum shells to build a tunnel out from the end of the kick drum. There is a close mic on the kick drum and another mic at the end of the resonance tunnel, creating a huge booming kick drum sound.
Harry’s creativity in the studio is inspiring and really helping to bring us to a new level as recording artists and musicians. We’ve been learning alot and the whole production team working on this record are brilliant. We seriously could not ask for a better group of people working on this project.

beinstrumental asked: I was a little disappointed with the song, precisely because it's not Battles-ish at all, although it is still crazy and stuff. Also, when i heard The Line a while ago i was excited because it was good, a little bit more 'mainstream' than most of their stuff, but still good. But now Tyondai is gone, and i don't know if I will like their new album, it doesn't feel the same.

I was surprised to see a lot of people cheering at Tyondai’s leave, I don’t know. Maybe they’re instrumental purists. The Line was a little more mainstream yep, but it hadn’t lost its repetetive elements and craziness.

Well, Tyondai is gone, but try to see the bright side. Now that Tyondai has a solo project, there will be more material coming from them. I quite like what Tyondai has done on Central Market.

You can’t really judge a book by its cover and I suppose you can’t judge an album by its first single. There’s not much you can expect with a single like that, but I prefer to hope that it was pop and less Battles-ish just to serve its purpose as a single. Keep your fingers crossed anyway.

Toe - Everything Means Nothing (CUT DVD)

Toes are the digits of the foot of a tetrapod.

“Toe is a Japanese music group. While mentioned in many post-rock circles, their song structure and dynamics are similar to many popular math-rock artists.

Toe is composed of Kashikura Takashi on drums, Mino Takaaki on guitar, Yamane Satoshi on bass guitar, and Yamazaki Hirokazu on guitar. Toe has formally played with this line-up since the band’s inception in 2000. They are currently one of three bands on the indie label Machu Picchu, along with the bands mouse on the keys and Enemies. This is a label formed by the members of Toe.

The vast majority of the music is instrumental and features the swift and acute drumming of Takashi. The band is also known for its melodic, clean guitar settings. Additionally, the compositions have repetition from typical rock motifs, but use very subtle changes in beat and rhythm to form a unique sound. The band has changed their sound over their musical tenure by incorporating acoustic guitars, rhodes piano, and vibraphones in their most recent releases.

The band tours regularly in Japan, and can most notably be compared to acts such as Pele and The Album Leaf.”
